One of the oldest known aromatic spices, BLACK PEPPER has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant, and carminative (i.e. anti-flatulent) properties. With its long history as a valuable international trading commodity, the pepper fruit or berry – also known as the peppercorn – is often considered the first ‘black gold’ and the ‘king of spices’. The traditional uses of black pepper include the treatment of conditions ranging from joint and muscular pain, arthritis, indigestion, headache, earache, tooth decay, halitosis, haemorrhoids, and insect bites, to more serious afflictions like heart and liver disease. In Ayurvedic medicine, the ‘stimulating heat’ of black pepper is utilised to clear congestion in the respiratory system and even treat asthma; within standard (i.e. allopathic) Indian medicine, black pepper is still widely employed as a natural expectorant and treatment for chest congestion, colds, coughs, sore throats, and bronchitis. The pungency and heating properties of black pepper work to enkindle the ‘digestive fire’ – that is, to trigger the stomach to release hydrochloric acid (needed to digest food – especially protein) and to stimulate digestive enzymes in the pancreas. This helps to prevent food from staying in the stomach for too long, and so prevents heartburn, indigestion, flatulence, irritation, diarrhea, and constipation. The anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial effects of black pepper also promote the health of the digestive tract. Black pepper has been noted to have diaphoretic (promotes sweating) and diuretic (promotes urination) properties. It also has thermogenic* properties and encourages the breakdown of lipids in the blood which are known to place individuals at risk for heart disease and stroke. [*Thermogenesis is considered to be the most important factor in maintaining weight loss]. Black pepper is an excellent source of manganese and vitamin K, a very good source of copper and dietary fiber, and a good source of iron, chromium, and calcium. One of black pepper’s main components – piperine – has been shown to reduce memory impairment and cognitive malfunction.

SPAGYRIC TINCTURES offer a more energetically complete herb or plant extraction. These concentrated extractions contain the three essentials – that is, the body, soul and spirit – of the herb or plant, purified and recombined in an exalted medicinal form. The spagyric technique is part of the ancient initiatic tradition of alchemy – the Art that lies at the heart of the inner traditions of the West.

Ordinary herbal tinctures only partially utilise the curative powers of the plants from which they are prepared. Spagyric tinctures are made according to unique processes which ‘open’ the plant or herb and liberate stronger curative powers. The spagyric technique of confecting herbal remedies embodies another – more synergistic – way of considering Nature and its powers.

TESTIMONIALS

“Anyone interested in alchemical spagyric herbalism MUST check out what Paul Hardacre and Marissa Newell are creating! I take the Mare Maia coriander / cilantro and turmeric daily! I will never forget tasting these for the first time! Transported me back to India and the power of true alchemical healing!”
— Craig Williams (Ayurvedic Acharya, Clinical Herbalist and Acupuncturist, and author of Cave of the Numinous)

“Turmeric, maca root and tongkat ali are my go-to tinctures, they work good for me and all the people I have recommended them to have been happy. I’m probably going to introduce myself to some new tinctures and explore the benefits of these natural medicines.”
— Glenn ‘Teddy Bear’ Sparv (#1 mixed martial arts welterweight in Finland, ranked top 100 in the world)

“I take Mare Maia’s turmeric and coriander-cilantro spagyric tinctures every day, based on my physician’s advice. In addition to these, I have enjoyed working with other types of tinctures you offer. Of late, I have particularly enjoyed your German chamomile – for me, it beats kava kava, when it comes to helping me relax and maintain focus, especially when I meditate.”
— Melissa Blythe Harrell (Austin, Texas, USA)

“Mare Maia’s garlic, goji berry, and turmeric tinctures are truly wonderful. The turmeric has improved my recovery after runs and other work-outs; my knees, prone to pain, feel great! It has also improved my skin condition, reducing inflammation and acne. Garlic and goji go great together as part of the inner alchemy of my Yoga and Tantra practice, not to mention the health benefits. Giving them a try was a great idea; I started to see results inside a week.”
— Purnacandra Sivarupa (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA)

“I use Mare Maia’s turmeric and tongkat ali spagyric tinctures and love them both. The turmeric is basically a cure for joint pain. The tongkat ali really gives me a boost for the hard workouts. Whether you are a pro athlete or just someone who likes to work out and be healthy, these products really help with all the nagging little things that come from intense exercise.”
— Ryan McKelvy (MMA fighter, Chiang Mai, Thailand)

“In the world of big pharma thank you Marissa Newell and Paul Hardacre for reigniting this ancient art.”
— Dalia Mikhail (Brisbane, Australia)

“I take spagyric tinctures of graviola leaf, sage, chamomile, garlic, and goji berry. I have found that a combination of all these in rotation two times per day yields the best results. I take garlic, goji and graviola in the morning, 10 drops each in juice. Then garlic, sage and chamomile in the evening, 10 drops each in juice. Normally, by this time of year, after rains and humidity, I would have succumbed to a progression of colds by now. This has not been the case this year, so the main function of all these in combination seems to be helping boost the immune system.”
— Aye (Chiang Mai, Thailand)

“I’ve been enjoying a cocktail of spagyric tinctures from Mare Maia over the past few weeks including garlic, sage, goji berry, German chamomile, turmeric, and coriander-cilantro. The most definitive improvement I have found is an increase in energy levels and general well being. Also the anti-inflammatory properties of the turmeric have noticeably helped with my back pain. Thanks Paul Hardacre, Marissa Newell and Balthus for all the effort that goes into the extraction process and by bringing a little alchemy to Chiang Mai!”
— Aaron Faulkner (Chiang Mai, Thailand)

“I have been using your tinctures for few months now, but as an energy intuitive guide I am very sensitive to the pure and natural and enjoyed your tinctures and their healing powers from the start … Your great presence is felt in your force to expand and grow and provide what once was your own alchemy [work] in your private laboratory to a valuable healing power that many people can enjoy. Anyone who tries your tinctures will enjoy the same movement of expansion and healing that you bring into them … May people discover your gift and add this valuable alchemy product to their life.”
— Shelly Sharon (Modena, Italy)
